PTLT Kayak Paddle and Guided Naturalist Talks
Join Patuxent Tidewater Land Trust and the Patuxent Riverkeeper for a paddle on the water. Individuals can go out in groups with or without a guide to hear about the history of the beautiful Patuxent River. Naturalists and biologists will give talks about our watershed ecology, impacts and the protections provided by land conservation. Donations accepted; Kayak rentals available (or bring your own). It will be a great time. Rain date of Sept. 16th.
Frank gave a class/workshop on alien invasive plants and vine removal from trees at the College of Southern MD, Leonardtown Campus, on April 7, 2017. About 40 students and 2 instructors participated. It was a great group of students who made short work of helping save the trees on campus. To join the Weed Warriors activities (generally in the fall and winter), or for more info, contact Frank at firstname.lastname@example.org
A great group of PTLT volunteers (and “Helen” the dog) assembled to help update the Trail maps at Myrtle Point Park on March 25, 2017. After hiking the trails, adding GPS points, and assembling the combined notes, volunteers will now create a new map and tri-fold trail guide for visitors to the park.
It was an intense day of Planning for Your Land Trust’s Future with break-out sessions for Tactical Planning. Although it was very hot, many of us went on a short one mile hike, at lunch time, along the Appalachian Trail, which runs right next door to the Mather Training Center. Thanks to the Land Trust Alliance for all their help and support of Land Trusts across the United States.
Friends of PTLT enjoyed the Second Annual Cruise, to Tangiers Island!
Friends of PTLT had another wonderful excursion in August 2016 to visit Tangier Island aboard the North Star, with Captain Butch Cornelius. We ate fresh seafood for lunch on the Island. Then we had a chance to walk, rent a bicycle, or golf cart, and tour the Island on our own. There were shops to visit, a nice local museum, two ice cream shops, and a lovely beach to walk at the end of the Island. We are already making plans for next years’ trip. Please join us!
Four PTLT Board Members attended the June 14, 2016 workshop on Tact and Tactics for Managing a Big Conservation Easement Violation held at beautiful Accokeek Park!
It was a lovely day for an information-rich meeting/workshop sponsored by the Land Trust Alliance at Accokeek Park. Four PTLT Board Members attended the meeting, followed by a tour of the working farm. I believe the workshop strengthened our commitment towards our goal of achieving accreditation of our Land Trust. We have come a long way in the last couple of years, but there is still more to do!
MET, Maryland Environmental Trust, Summit, May 6-7, 2016
Keeping Conservation and Land Trusts Vital for the Next Century in Maryland
Two PTLT Board Members attended the MET Summit in May. It was an inspirational 2-day event. PTLT President, Frank Allen, also received the Janice Hollman Grant for our St. Mary’s College Summer Intern Program.
